"Beginner Class Basket"

(4" x 6" x 13")
Materials:
6" x 8" D handle
3/8," 1/2," 3/4" flat reed
1/2" flat/oval
1/2" ash, natural
5/8" ash, dyed brown
seagrass
fine cane
Preparation:
Cut from 3/4" flat: 8 spokes - 20" long 5 spokes - 26" long
Cut from 1/2" flat: 4 pieces - 20" long
Lay out the 5 (26") spokes horizontally. Place the handle vertically on top of the spokes at the center. Lay the 4 filler pieces on top of the handle, spaced in between the 5 longer spokes. Weave in the 8 (20") spokes vertically - four on each side of the handle.
Base measures: 6" x 11."
Fold both ends of the four filler pieces to the underside of the base and tuck under the third spokes from the end. Upsett.
Weave:
1 row 3/4" (under handle)
3 rows 3/8"
2 rows 5/8" ash - dyed brown
2 rows 3/8"
Fold and tuck outside spokes. Cut off inside spokes. Use 1/2" flat/oval for the rim. Use seagrass for filler. Use medium cane for lasher.
Using 1/2" ash, weave curls through the two rows of dyed 5/8" ash.
